Hutchinson Community Foundation awards grant, Plans nonprofit workshop

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community Foundation has awarded a $7,500 grant to support repairs at Turon's historic Community Building and will host a data storytelling workshop for nonprofit leaders next month.

The Fund for Reno County provided the grant through its Strong Organizations program as part of the 2025 Impact Cycle 1. The funding will help the City of Turon make repairs to the entrance and windows of the 116-year-old building, which continues to serve various community functions including as the city office and library.

"This project helps maintain a community gathering place for Turon and their larger region, ensuring this historic space will be available for another generation," the foundation stated.

Nonprofit Leadership Workshop

The foundation will host "Storytelling with Data: Masterclass for Local Nonprofit Leaders" on July 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hutchinson Community Foundation offices at 1 N. Main St.

The free workshop, part of the foundation's summer Learning Community Series and Nonprofit Strength Initiative, will be led by Lori Bower of BowerComm. The session is designed for nonprofit leaders who want to move beyond basic statistics and transform data into compelling narratives.

Participants will learn to identify key insights in their data, connect statistics to emotional narratives, create effective visual presentations, and tailor storytelling approaches for different audiences including donors and board members.

Workshop Details

The masterclass will provide a framework for analyzing and presenting data meaningfully, along with tips for integrating visuals into reports and presentations. Real-world examples of successful nonprofit data storytelling will be featured.

Lunch will be served at the workshop. Advanced registration is required by July 7, with space limited to 30 participants. The foundation encourages two people from each organization to attend for shared learning.

The workshop represents the foundation's ongoing efforts to strengthen nonprofit organizations in Reno County through professional development opportunities and peer learning initiatives.
