High School All-Stars Gather for 52nd Kansas Shrine Bowl

DODGE CITY, Kan. — High school football's top senior talent from across Kansas will compete Saturday night in the 52nd annual Kansas Shrine Bowl, a charity game that has raised nearly $4 million for children's healthcare over five decades.

The East vs. West all-star game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium, marking the first time Dodge City has hosted the event since 2019. Fans can listen to the broadcast on a statewide Eagle Media network, including the flagship station, Country 102.9-FM KHUT in Hutchinson, as well as affiliate stations in Great Bend (KVGB-FM), Hays (KKQY-FM), Salina (KINA-AM/FM), Junction City (KJCK-AM/FM), Manhattan (KQLA), plus out-of-network stations in Coffeyville (KGGF) and Beloit (KVSV-AM/FM).

More than 400 high school seniors were initially nominated for the game, with 88 players selected through a process involving media members and coaches from across the state. The West squad includes players from Hutchinson, Pratt, McPherson and other area schools.

The West squad includes locals Terrell King (Hutchinson), Owen Schmidt (Pratt), Henry Hecox (Moundridge), Landon Harp and Cooper Marx (Andale), Catch Delaney (McPherson), Karter Gonzalez (Hesston), Connor Herman (Halstead), and Bodey Redenbaugh (Buhler). Hutchinson’s Mike Vernon and Hesston’s Tyson Bauerle will serve as assistant coaches for the West. The West team is currently holding its camp at Hutchinson Community College.

Friday night's charity carnival at the Dodge City Civic Center features food trucks, games and player autograph sessions.

Saturday morning's parade, described as Kansas' largest Shrine parade, precedes the game.

Since 1974, the Shrine Bowl has rotated among Kansas communities to maximize fundraising reach and build awareness of available healthcare services. The West holds a 31-18-2 series advantage through 2024.
