Hibbett Sports to Close Hutchinson Mall Location Saturday

Hibbett Sports will permanently close its Uptown Hutch Mall location Saturday, marking the end of the sporting goods retailer's presence in the local market.
A store employee confirmed the closure to Hutch Post, though additional details about the reasons behind the decision were not immediately available. The Hutchinson location is part of the Birmingham, Alabama-based chain that specializes in athletic equipment, footwear and apparel.
Hibbett Sports, a wholly owned subsidiary of JD Sports, operates primarily in small to mid-sized markets across the Southeast, Southwest and lower Midwest. As of February 2024, the company maintained 1,169 stores across 36 states, including 960 Hibbett Sports locations, 193 City Gear stores and 16 Sports Additions shoe stores.
The company's highest concentration of retail outlets is located in Georgia, Texas and Alabama. The closure of the Hutchinson store represents another retail departure from the Uptown Hutch Mall, which has experienced several store closures in recent years.
The store's final day of operations will be Saturday, June 14, ending the chain's run in the Hutchinson market.
