June 10, 2025

Carson Harrell threw six shutout innings and the Hutchinson Monarchs improved to 6-0 with an 8-3 victory over the Wichita Black Sox on Monday night at Hobart-Detter Field.
Harrell allowed just two hits and struck out eight batters before turning the game over to Camden Cornelius, who pitched three innings of relief. Cornelius allowed three runs on four hits while striking out three to preserve the win.
The Monarchs jumped on Wichita starter Colton Crockett early, scoring in each of the first four innings. Crockett took the loss after surrendering seven runs — six earned — on eight hits over four innings.
Designated hitter Dylan Bell opened the scoring in the first inning with a three-run homer over the right-field wall, driving in Jeter Worthley and JJ Spafford.
Hutchinson extended its lead to 4-0 in the third on a run-scoring double by Jake Knox, then broke the game open in the fourth. Tyler Mitchell and Spafford each drove in runs with singles before Bell added another RBI on a grounder that was misplayed at first base. Jackson Legg capped the rally with an RBI single to center, giving the Monarchs a 6-0 advantage.
Worthley added an RBI single in the seventh to push Hutchinson's lead to 8-0.
The Black Sox finally broke through in the eighth inning when Nick Rotola hit a two-run triple and scored on a groundout by John Toinight to cut the deficit to 8-3. But Cornelius retired the final four batters to close out the victory.
The Monarchs will travel to Haysville for games against the Aviators on Wednesday before returning home Saturday for Cancer Awareness Night against the Great Bend Bat Cats. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
