The contractor will grind an estimated 26,500 cubic yards of branches and logs currently stored at the Third Street site. Solid Waste Superintendent Dale Fortin noted the material needs to be cleared before winter to make room for snow storage, with a target completion date of Oct. 15\. The shredded wood will be diverted from the landfill and used as alternate cover at the wastewater site, saving the city from sourcing and utilizing clay. --- ### Final payment approved for two-year Dakota Avenue project HURON, S.D. — A two-year reconstruction project on Dakota Avenue is officially complete following the city commission's unanimous approval of a final payment of $74,401.06\. Assistant City Engineer Dennis Bennett explained that the accompanying final change order balanced out material quantities to successfully zero out the project's contract. --- ### Airport weather cameras go live following joint agreement HURON, S.D. — Real-time weather views at the Huron Regional Airport are now available to the public online 24 hours a day via the South Dakota Department of Transportation's travel information portal at sd511.org. The commission finalized a joint powers agreement with SDDOT to fund the newly installed weather cameras, with the city paying $4,136.11 as its share. City officials noted the project came in slightly under the estimated cost and the hardware is now fully operational. --- ### City transfers Frank Avenue lot for housing development HURON, S.D. — In an effort to support local housing, the city approved a quitclaim deed transferring a parcel of land in the South Addition to the Greater Huron Development Corporation. The land, located on the west side of Frank Avenue south of the water tower, was transferred for future residential construction. Developers plan to build a new home on the lot. --- ### Police escort and street closures approved for annual toy run HURON, S.D. — The Wind Riders ABATE Toy Run received the green light to proceed with its upcoming charity event.
