MCPHERSON, Kan. — A high wind warning and red flag warning remain in effect across central Kansas until 6 p.m. Thursday, with northwest winds of 35-40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph threatening widespread power outages and creating extreme fire danger conditions. The National Weather Service warns that damaging winds will likely topple trees and power lines across citizen journal's Kansas coverage area, making travel difficult for high-profile vehicles, while relative humidity between 20-30 percent combined with the strong winds creates critical fire weather conditions that could cause any grass fires to spread rapidly and become difficult to control. Residents in affected areas should secure loose objects, avoid outdoor burning, and prepare for possible power outages through the evening hours.
