Rural Logan Combines Nursing Home with School in Innovative Facility

LOGAN — This Phillips County farming community of 436 residents has opened Kansas' first intergenerational facility combining a nursing home with a school, bringing together elderly residents and students under one roof at the Logan Intergenerational Family Education Center. The innovative LIFE Center addresses rural Kansas' aging population challenges by fostering connections between generations while providing educational opportunities for local youth.

The facility allows nursing home residents to volunteer in classrooms and assist with science projects, while students interview residents to record oral histories and high school students gain hands-on experience by job shadowing physical therapists and working part-time as nursing assistants.

Missouri Governor Calls Special Session for Chiefs, Royals Stadium Funding

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe ordered state lawmakers back to Jefferson City for a June 2 special session to approve stadium funding for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals after legislators failed to pass the plan during the regular session. The Republican governor's call for the special session, which can last up to 60 days under state law, comes as both professional sports franchises seek public support for stadium improvements.

The move affects Kansas residents in the metro area who follow both teams and could impact potential competition between Kansas and Missouri for keeping the franchises.
