# Hays Fire Department issues Fourth of July safety tips for 'dud' fireworks

HAYS, Kan. — The City of Hays Fire Department is urging residents to never attempt to relight malfunctioning fireworks during Fourth of July celebrations. If a firework "duds," officials advise letting the device sit before thoroughly dousing it in water to prevent unexpected explosions or injuries. The department also recommends lighting only one firework at a time, keeping explosives out of pockets and cleaning up all debris once it has completely cooled.
