HAYS, Kan. — The Hays City Commission is poised to advance millions of dollars in financing Thursday to jump-start two major residential projects aimed at expanding the local housing supply.

Commissioners will vote on issuing $6 million in general obligation bonds to fund water, sewer and street infrastructure for the Tallgrass Phase 4 development. The commission will also set an Aug. 13 public hearing for a Reinvestment Housing Incentive District at the former Lincoln School, where a local developer plans to convert the roughly 100-year-old building and surrounding property into a $4.3 million, 54-unit apartment complex.

In other business, commissioners will vote to renew the city's property and liability insurance coverage with Midwest Public Risk for $569,891, an increase of $90 over the previous year's premium. The commission is also scheduled to approve the $30,000 purchase of an airplane hangar at Hays Regional Airport.

Mayor Mason Ruder will preside over the meeting, which begins at 4 p.m. at City Hall.
