HAYS — The Hays City Commission will vote Thursday on authorizing up to $850,000 to equip the city's new downtown police station and municipal court. The funds, drawn from previously issued general obligation bonds, would cover fixtures, furnishings and equipment for the $8.9 million facility currently under construction in the former Astra Bank building at 11th and Fort streets. If approved, the purchase will include IT infrastructure, fiber-optic network connectivity, security measures, training room equipment and standard office furniture to outfit the space before its planned opening late this fall.

During the 4 p.m. meeting at City Hall, commissioners will also review the city's financial statements and consider approving a cereal malt beverage license for the Hays Lions Club. City staff estimate the $850,000 equipment purchase will keep the police station renovation well within its overall budget, marking a major milestone for the relocation of the city's law enforcement operations.
