The hearings will provide residents an opportunity to comment on the proposed municipal budget and local tax rates prior to final consideration and approval by commissioners. --- ### City to select name for Exit 161 commercial development HAYS, Kan. — The city commission will review three proposed names for a 90-acre, city-owned property at Interstate 70 Exit 161 during Thursday's work session. City staff and Grow Hays, a local economic development organization, selected the finalists to create a unified, attractive brand for marketing the site to future developers. An infrastructure extension project is currently underway at the property to prepare it for commercial use. --- ### Downtown Hays to host annual Wines & Steins event HAYS, Kan. — Historic downtown Hays will host the annual Wines & Steins event on Saturday, Sept. 12, featuring 12 tasting stops with curated beer and wine selections. The event, which includes an after-party at The Strand Event Center, aims to support local businesses and encourage residents and visitors to explore the downtown district. Tickets are available online through Sept. 11. --- ### Fort Hays State University to host 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb HAYS, Kan. — The sixth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will take place at Lewis Field Stadium on the Fort Hays State University campus starting at 7:46 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12\. The free community event will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, offering participants a chance to honor the lives lost and recognize the sacrifices of local first responders. --- ### Elizabeth Polly statue relocated to Fort Hays State Historic Site HAYS, Kan. — The community is invited to celebrate the relocation of local sculptor Pete Felten's statue of local legend Elizabeth Polly with a reception at Fort Hays State Historic Site \[1\] at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26\. The gathering will commemorate the monument's addition to the historic landmark and reflect on Polly's enduring place in Hays history, followed by live music from 80 Proof Alice. --- ### Frontier Open Disc Golf Tournament returns to Frontier Park HAYS, Kan. — Frontier Park will host 270 competitors for the 42nd annual Frontier Open Disc Golf Tournament on Sept. 12 and 13\. Recognized as the oldest sanctioned disc golf event in Kansas, organizers anticipate the tournament will be the second-largest in the state this year, drawing visiting players and supporting the local economy \[2\]. --- ### Hays Prairie Winds Kite Show set for Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex HAYS, Kan. — The Hays Prairie Winds Kite Show will return to Hays on Sept. 12 and 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex. The family-friendly outdoor event will feature a colorful display of large kites, a sidewalk chalk contest and food trucks, with attendees encouraged to bring leashed pets, lawn chairs and blankets. --- ### Police department to host Pedal Patrol in the Park bicycle safety event HAYS, Kan. — The Hays Police Department will host Pedal Patrol in the Park on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Aubel-Bickle Optimist Park.
