# Governor Kelly announces administration appointments

TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly announced July 7, 13 appointments to the following state boards, task force, and council.

**State Board of Technical Professions**  
Purpose: To provide maximum protection of the health, safety, and welfare of the people of Kansas by assuring that the practice of engineering, architecture, land surveying, landscape architecture, and geology in the state is carried out only by persons who are proven to be qualified as prescribed by the board’s statutes, rules, and regulations.

- Trudy Faulkner, Overland Park (reappointment)
- Mike Armour, Clearwater
- Heidi Thummel, Shawnee

**Board of Nursing**  
Purpose: To protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Kansas through the licensure and regulation process of the nursing professions.

- Melissa Oropeza, Kansas City (reappointment)
- Belinda Katz, Bucklin
- Tosha Fields, Cimarron
- Steve Peterson, Topeka

  
**Kansas State Fair Board**  
Purpose: To promote and showcase Kansas agriculture, industry, and culture, to create opportunities for commercial activity, and to provide an educational and entertaining experience that is the pride of all Kansans.

**Quindaro Ruins Task Force**  
Purpose: To convene stakeholders involved in the Quindaro ruins archaeological park for the purpose of collaboration and development of the Quindaro ruins archaeological park.

- Hon. Karen Arnold-Berger, Kansas City

**Governor’s Behavioral Health Services Planning Council**  
Purpose: To advise the governor on adult, adolescent, and children’s services issues.

- Guy Steier, Clyde (reappointment)
- Chrissy Mayer, Eudora (reappointment)

**Governor Kelly Extends Application Deadline to** 
**Fill District Magistrate Judge Position in** 
**the 18th Judicial District**

  
Kelly also extended the deadline for applications to fill the district magistrate judge position in the 18th Judicial District. The 18th Judicial District is composed of Sedgwick County. Governor Kelly received official notice of this vacancy from the Kansas Judicial Center on May 22, 2025.

Individuals wishing to apply should contact [JudicialApplications@ks.gov](mailto:JudicialApplications@ks.gov) for application materials. The deadline to submit application materials, which was previously June 24, 2025, has been extended to July 18, 2025.

To be considered for the district magistrate judge position, an applicant must be:

- A resident of Sedgwick County at the time of taking office and while holding office;
- A graduate of a high school, a secondary school, or the equivalent; and
- Either a lawyer admitted to practice in Kansas or able to pass an examination to become certified within 18 months.

Consistent with K.S.A. 45-312a, the person appointed to fill the vacancy shall serve until a successor is elected and qualified at the next general election to serve the remainder of the unexpired term.
