Addressing families on Jesse Hayes Road, Gameros stated there was no intention to add to their hardship during the recovery process. City Manager Paul Jepson acknowledged the situation surrounding the citation process and its impact, confirming he directed the dismissal of all related citations as the city pivots toward developing a comprehensive, long-term flood mitigation plan. --- ### City approves contract for flood debris sorting at temporary site GLOBE, Ariz. — The city council unanimously approved a $20,306 contract with Viking Specialty Contracting to sort flood debris at the city's temporary debris management site. The state-certified contractor will separate "white goods," such as appliances and propane tanks, to prepare the site for asbestos testing by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. Because the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied the city's disaster declaration, the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs will reimburse 75 percent of the sorting costs, with the city covering the remaining 25 percent. --- ### Council approves additional funds for Broad Street sidewalk design GLOBE, Ariz. — The city council approved an additional $15,000 to the Arizona Department of Transportation for administrative costs related to the Broad Street sidewalks project, bringing the total design cost to more than $330,000\. Public works staff reported that the project, which spans from Mesquite to Cottonwood streets, recently secured more than $2.2 million in federal construction funding through an ADOT Transportation Alternatives grant. The city expects to put the ADA-compliant sidewalk reconstruction project out to bid in the spring. --- ### Safe streets demonstration project targets Broad Street intersections GLOBE, Ariz. — Downtown Globe will see temporary safety enhancements this fall as part of a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All demonstration grant. The Living Streets Alliance presented findings from recent community engagement, identifying the intersections at Cottonwood and Yuma streets as the top priorities for traffic calming and pedestrian safety improvements. The 10-month demonstration will use temporary materials, such as high-visibility paint and plastic bollards, to slow traffic and improve crosswalk visibility before the city pursues permanent infrastructure funding. --- ### Police department transitions to purchasing vehicles with F-150 buy GLOBE, Ariz. — The police department is officially moving away from its vehicle leasing program, as the city council approved the $116,304 purchase of two 2026 Ford F-150 Police Responder vehicles.
