MCPHERSON, Kan. — A $10,000 grant awarded in August by the McPherson County Community Foundation helped The Cedars buy 19 new beds for former [McPherson College student housing](https://www.mcpherson.edu/2024/03/mcpherson-college-adds-new-residence-hall-for-fall-2024/?ref=citizenjournal.us). The housing is being renovated into care rooms The Cedars hopes to reopen in late August.

Tricia Hartshorn, director of fund advancement at The Cedars, said the grant was combined with other funding to buy the height-adjustable beds. Along with beds The Cedars already owned, the new beds support a total of 28 care rooms in Cedars Ridge Houses 805 and 807.

Residents moving into the renovated space will come from another occupied area of the campus, which will then be renovated into a higher-functioning memory care unit. The renovation is part of a senior care expansion that [won state tax credits in July](https://www.kansascommerce.gov/2026/06/commerce-awards-csp-tax-credits-to-24-kansas-non-profit-organizations/?ref=citizenjournal.us).
