MCPHERSON, Kan. — A McPherson firefighter returned to duty unharmed after partially falling through a roof while crews battled a house fire in the 500 block of West Avenue A on Wednesday afternoon, July 8, according to the McPherson Fire Department.

The home's single resident safely evacuated after reporting smoke around 3:50 p.m., allowing firefighters to quickly contain the blaze to the first-floor attic space where it originated, the department said.

Foul play is not suspected, but the official cause of the fire remains under investigation, McPherson Fire Department officials said.
