# Crack sealing set to start Tuesday on Main, Euclid and Marlin ahead of Sept. 14 chip seal

The Street Department was scheduled to begin crack sealing Tuesday, Sept. 8, on parts of Main, Euclid and Marlin streets, where McPherson drivers will meet single-lane work zones from 6 to 9 a.m. this week. The work areas are Main Street from Kansas Avenue to First Street, Euclid Street from Walnut to Maxwell, and Marlin Street from Chestnut to Ash, according to the city's [Sept. 3 announcement](https://www.mcpcity.com/m/NewsFlash/Home/Detail/1355?ref=citizenjournal.us).

The sealant needs about 30 minutes to cool enough for traffic, the city said, and crews start at 6 a.m. specifically to beat traffic in the downtown area. The city asks drivers to watch for orange cones and flashing lights and to be mindful of workers who are out of their vehicles.

Crack sealing fills cracks in the pavement with a sealant, and the city said it is doing the work to prepare for chip sealing, a surface treatment in which oil and rock are laid over existing pavement.
