WELLINGTON — The Sumner County Conservation District will present "Getting to the Root of Soil Health" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at the Raymond Frye Complex, 320 N. Jefferson Ave.

The free presentation will feature Dr. Jill Clapperton, a principal scientist with Rhizoterra Inc., who will discuss creating healthy, productive soil and understanding interactions between plant roots, soil organisms and soils that transform dirt to soil.

The program is designed for anyone wanting to learn about soil health, according to organizers. A free lunch will follow the presentation.

The first portion will cover the fundamentals of healthy soil, including what organisms contribute and their importance. The second half will focus on information that helps create and sustain healthy soil for both growers and grazers, with emphasis on "Planting with Purpose" — designing yield-supporting and soil-building cropping sequences.

Topics will include using companion crops more effectively, plant and soil science for finding appropriate forage, cover and pollinator crops.

The event is sponsored by the Sumner County Conservation District in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Those interested in attending should RSVP by calling 620-326-2269, ext. 3072, or visiting [https://sumnercountyconservationdistrict.my.canva.site/](https://sumnercountyconservationdistrict.my.canva.site/?ref=citizenjournal.us).
