Drivers, detoured around 30th Avenue for nearly two weeks now, have a target date: Hutchinson is aiming to reopen the roadway at K-61 on Wednesday, Sept. 9, once concrete from the storm pipe repair cures. Westbound lanes [closed Aug. 20 after the pipe failure](https://www.citizenjournal.us/westbound-30th-avenue-closed-at-k-61-after-storm-pipe-failure-raises-collapse-risk/) raised the risk of road collapse, and the closure was expanded Aug. 25 to both directions between Apple Lane and K-61 as the work grew, with traffic routed to a detour on 17th Avenue.

According to the city's Aug. 31 update, posted on the City of Hutchinson's official Facebook page, excavation and removal of the damaged storm pipe were complete. The update said crews expected to finish installing the replacement pipe and backfilling the area by the end of that day; the city has not confirmed that the work was completed. The city said work for the rest of the week is focused on restoring the street, curb and gutter, and sidewalk, including concrete and pavement work.
