BARTON COUNTY, Kan. — The Barton County Commission voted unanimously to amend solid waste rates effective Aug. 1, 2026, stepping back from a previously approved rate increase to give local trash haulers and contractors more time to prepare. Commissioners acknowledged that the initial timeline negatively impacted haulers locked into fixed contracts and noted the lack of advance notice was an oversight. Barton County Solid Waste Director Jennifer Hamby was directed to formally notify local contractors of the adjusted rate schedule.
