HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Four months after returning from a historic journey around the moon, two crew members of the Artemis II mission touched down in Hutchinson to visit the Cosmosphere alongside top space and government officials.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman and U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, a Republican, joined Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman and Mission Specialist Christina Koch for a special tour of the space museum on Tuesday. The group explored the Cosmosphere's extensive collection of space artifacts, interacted with students in the museum's education department, and participated in a special question-and-answer session. During the panel, the astronauts shared firsthand accounts of their 10-day lunar flyby mission that successfully splashed down in April.

For Wiseman, the visit served as an opportunity to stand by his high praise for the Hutchinson institution. During his address to the crowd, the mission commander proudly reiterated his previous claim that the Cosmosphere is "the Best Space Museum on Planet Earth". The astronauts and officials concluded the event with an all-hands-in cheer before departing the facility.

The special appearance highlighted the Cosmosphere's ongoing mission to preserve the history of space exploration while inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists. Moran, who chairs the Senate Appropriations subcommittee that funds NASA, previously extended an open invitation to the astronauts to visit the Kansas museum while speaking with them on a live call during their spaceflight. He helped arrange Tuesday's event in collaboration with museum staff and FILI Creative videographer Tanner Colvin, who documented the historic visit.
