NEWTON, Kan. — An armed man was taken into custody Sunday morning, August 2, after barricading himself inside a home around 6 a.m. during a serious domestic violence investigation.

The standoff prompted street closures, evacuations and shelter-in-place orders near Old Main and 24th streets before concluding peacefully without injuries. Authorities, who executed both arrest and search warrants at the scene, confirmed the domestic violence victim was safe and the affected neighborhood has fully reopened to the public.
